Caux Collective’s Artist Seventy-Two: Volume Seventeen
Today we have decided to bring you the work of 54-year old, Chinese Contemporary Artist Ai Weiwei, who is known for being most active in sculpture, installation, architecture, curating, photography, film, and social, political and cultural criticism. You can tell we’ve just taken that straight from Wikipedia because let’s be honest, there’s no better way of saying what it already says there and we’re all about minimum effort with maximum effect. Kidding, but seriously there’s no point rewriting that, so let’s just get down to it.
It’s actually quite hard to summarise all 54-years of Weiwei’s life in just a few hundred words, and if we’re being completely honest we’ve not really got much interest in doing so. As much as we’ve been content thus far writing reviews and the like, just ‘for the art’ it does become somewhat of a chore when you receive incredibly little feedback and appreciation for doing it, so we’ll keep this one short and sweet, just to make you aware of who he is and what he does, and we’ll bring you a bumper edition, or something like that, next time we write about an Artist we have a little more personal experience with ourselves, and we have a little more time on our hands. It’s a cliché “it’s not you, it’s me” ‘thing’ with Weiwei, as to why we’re not writing more about him today, as his life isn’t without it’s major events, including emigration, frequent gambling, countless exhibitions, awards, anti-government campaigning and even multiple arrests, but we just don’t really have the time or means to do so, at the moment, so do forgive us.
We do feel a little guilty bringing you what can only be described as a half-arsed attempt at an Artist Seventy-Two about an artist who has accomplished and been involved in so much during his life and who, only last year, was voted top of ArtReview’s Power 100: Guide to the 100 Most Powerful Figures in Contemporary Art, but as we’ve already stated we’ve been pretty busy lately, and sometimes it does seem a little bit more effort than it is worth. Nevertheless, everything aside, we’ll get over it, get back on track in the next few days, and get on with bringing you some really top notch stuff. Thanks for sticking with us.Posted on April 24, 2012 via Caux Collective with 17 notes

A rodent-eating snake and a hamster have developed an unusual bond at a zoo in Tokyo, Japan. Their relationship began when zookeepers presented the hamster to the snake as a meal.
However, the rat snake (named Aochan) refused to eat the rodent. The two now share a cage, and the hamster sometimes falls asleep sitting on top of his natural foe. Zookeepers have since named the hamster ‘Gohan’ – the Japanese word for meal.(via madgirlwithabox)
